Math Contests!

2/8/2017

Here are the dates and some information for 3 upcoming math contests...hot off the press!

Math League:  February 21 - after school  (Math Team will switch to Tuesday during this week to accommodate)
  • This contest is open to any 6th - 8th grader.  It is 30 minutes long and contains typical "contest style" questions.  Try sample contests here!

Math Counts:  February 25 - 8:30 am-2:00 pm at the CNA building
  • I can only take 10 students to this contest.  If more than 10 students are interested I will host a school contest this week to determine who will advance.  Please make sure you can attend before signing up! This contest mixes 6-8 graders together.  There is a team round and an individual round.

Chicago Junior Math League:  March 18 - 8:30-12:00 at Lane Tech
  • This is open to any 6th - 8th grader who wants to join!  The more the merrier!  I need to register all interested students before the competition.  Students compete against others in their grade level and at similar schools.

Contact Ms. Ridgway for more information!

6th Grade Quarter 1 Math Project

9/26/2016

The 6th graders received their Quarter 1 Math Project:  Paper Pool.  They have been provided with an outline of the problem, instruction for a written report, rubric for a written report, and a family letter.

You can find electronic copies of the project under the 6th Grade Math tab under the syllabus in case you need extra copies throughout the quarter.

This is a fun problem!  Students will feel very proud of themselves as they persevere and discover patterns in order to make generalizations.

Remind App

9/18/2016

Ms. Ridgway and Mrs. Mueller are piloting the Remind App this school year.  This app will allow us to send brief text message reminders to families as needed.  All students in grades 6-8 have received information regarding how parents and students can sign up to get reminders from our classes, as well as cross country and math team.  These were attached to a classroom syllabus or sports packet.  Because these codes are unique to our school and classrooms, we will not post them here.  Please email us if you need the codes and directions.

We will not be using the Remind App for homework, but rather reminders and classroom announcements.  Homework will still be posted on this website.
